I need to sew!

Well, here it is Friday -- the weekend! YEA! I've got to get some sewing done. I have not done any sewing in a couple of weeks -- SHAME SHAME SHAME! I plan to do some power sewing this weekend. I'm going to lock myself in my quilting studio and get after it -- making swap blocks and hopefully starting a firefighter quilt for my oldest son who will graduate from the Houston Fire Academy in May.

The "E" Word

Do you ever think about how we are getting older and our bodies are changing? I know that I sure do. It is a proven fact that "old age ain't for sissies". Now, I try to do good and exercise, but it is so hard. There for a while I was walking on my breaks at work, but then that stopped. It seemed I was 'too busy'. How many times have you said that????

Some of quilting friends are walking. They are worried about how their bodies look. I worry about mine too, but hey, I'm old, I'm a grandmother and I always thought that grandmothers were pudgy! Think about it -- was your grandmothers pudgy? Mine were. They weren't fat, but they were a little pudgy.

I saw this Maxine cartoon about having a 19-year old body and I decided that's a good philosphy! Don't ya just love Maxine!

Wild, Wild West

In June 2006, I entered a quilt in our County Go Texan Quilt Contest and won. The quilt has been on display at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. It won a first place in the Pictorial Division and then received an Honorable Mention for being the favorite quilt among those donated for auction. I donated my quilt to be auctioned off and a portion of the money goes to the Scholarship Fund, a portion back to Freestone County and a portion back to me. The quilt received 21 different bids and the final selling price was $2,900. Woo Hoo!!!!

Packwork Quilts and People

How much like a patchwork quilt we are; Some of us are bright and gay, some are quieter, more delicate and subdued. Yet how well we blend together, the quieter ones set off the colorful. The brighter ones accentuate the pastels. Often, the more fragile pieces hold the sturdy ones together; Blessed are we to be varied.

All of us are stitched with love and tied to one another. Reap the benefits of your sewing, Baste consideration into your life, Hem up disagreements, and embellish it all with love. May there always be work for your hands to do. May your purse always hold a coin or two. May the sun always shine on your windowpane. May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain. May the hand of a friend always be near you. May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

Little Canon

Here is a picture of my youngest grandchild, Canon. He is 2 years old. This is the grandbaby that was so sick with E-Coli/HUS Disease. He is back to himself and is even more spoiled ROTTEN than before he was sick. Isn't he the cutest little thing? BUT, I'm not partial, ya think? This picture was taken at Christmas 2007.

Scrapbooking

I also enjoy scrapbooking. I went to my first scrapbooking retreat in March of 2006. I won the prize for the best dressed St. Patrick's Day. I really didn't go 'all out' but I guess they liked what I wore. This is a picture of me at the retreat.

My Friends

I belong to a quilting group called the WackyPac. We are a group of 10 crazy women who love to quilt!! We get together at least once a month for dinner and drinks and then at various times. Sometimes, we have "emergency" meetings to have dinner (mainly a drink) when someone has had a bad day/week.

These girls are my greatest friends and are very supportive. We are always there for each other when the "going gets tuff" whether it be sickness or a bad of quilting! Bad day of quilting??? Is there such a thing? naw, I didn't think sew!

This is a picture of our group that was taken at our 2nd Annual Hunting Opening Weekend Sew-In which was held at the beautiful home of Molly, one of the original members! We had so much fun. What an ordeal it was to get this picture made and get all the cameras taking pictures -- oh well, we always have fun with everything we do!

I did it!

Well, I did it! Made my own blog! Oh my gosh, I just needed one more thing to do! But this is fun.
