Looky What I Did!

They say you should "toot your own horn" every now and then so here I go.......Looky!!! I won at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo "Go Texan Quilt Contest"!
This quilt is Bunny Hill's free online BOM a couple of years ago. It is made with both cotton and wool and hand-applique. It was a fun pulling fabrics from my stash and a very fun quilt to make. Each block represents a month of the year. I entered it in the county quilt show and it won the Go Texan Award which qualified it to be displayed at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. I just learned the quilt not only got a first place ribbon but also won Best of Division in the wallhanging category. WOW! I'm so excited! I'm anxious to get the critique sheets from the judges -- you know that's how us quilters learn is hearing from the judges!

Life is Grand!

Today is March 1st, this is my 200th Post, and my blog "Humble Quilter" will be two years old this month! Sew YES, LIFE IS GRAND and LIFE IS PRECIOUS!My friend, Zlaty over ta Zlaty Sews, has given me this award. THANK YOU ZLATY!

The Rules are I have to list 5 reasons why my life is "grand", and then pass it on to five more peeps.

1. My life is grand because I am a Christian and I have a God who loves me in spite of my faults.
2. I am a cancer survivor!
3. My hubby is my best friend and greatest supporter.
4. My two sons are the 'greatest' and they have given me two beautiful daughters and three PERFECT (hehehe) grandchildren.
5. My friends are awesome -- some of them a 'bit WACKY', but I couldn't imagine life without them.

Now is my turn to nominate 5 blogger with this Grand Award. I always have such a hard time choosing who to give these awards to. SEW, here's what I'm going to do: If you think your life is grand, please post this award on your blog and tell the world why your life is grand!

What???? I've received an Award!

This is a blogging award that originated in Portugal and this is what it says about the blogs who are given this award....."This blog invests and believes in PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are extremely charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly written text into the body of their award."

Wow! Zlaty over at Zlaty Sews is so sweet and has given me this award. I feel so honored. Gee, she must think I'm really nice -- hehehehehe. Be sure to go over and visit Zlaty's blog. Now, I am to give this award to 8 more people. I have had this post in "draft" for over a day. There are so many people I can think of to give this award to. When I go to their blogs, a lot of them have already received it. SEW, here's what I'm going to do: All the friends I've met in Blogland are the sweetest and nicest people. I LOVE reading everyone's blogs; in fact I think I'm addicted!!!!! I've decide to present this award to all the lovely quilters in Blogland!!!

Awards, Awards, Awards!!!!

My dear Wacky Friend, Molly, over at "Molly's Place" has just given me not one but TWO awards! I am so honored!!!!!

The first award is "Honest Scrap" (not to be confused with "crap" she says). I am to reveal 10 things about myself to you which will require me to "search my soul"......oh dear.......here goes:

1. During high school, I worked for a doctor part-time. After I graduated, he contacted me and offered to send me to nursing school and then work for him! I turned him down. I had just started to work for Shell Oil Company and was on "top of the world". I often think about that and think "how could I be so dumb?"

2. I took a few semesters of college but never finished; sometimes I wish that I did graduate, but then I also think I faired quite well in the business world even without a college education.

3. I have stared cancer in the face, fought with all my might, and am now a 5-year survivor. This experience was a life lesson that taught me how precious life is and how precious my family and friends are to me.

4. I have a friend that I've been friends with since we were toddlers. We went thru school together -- 1st grade thru graduation from high school. We worked together at Shell Oil in Houston. We went thru pregancy together; We no longer live near each other but we remain friends. We don't have a lot in common anymore (I mean hobbies, etc.) but we do cherish each other's friendship and are always there for one another -- just a phone call away.

5. I met my husband at a dance and the rest is history. We knew each other 'maybe' six weeks before we got married. In June of 2009, we will celebrate 38 years together. He is my best friend and greatest ally.

6. I consider my two sons my greatest accomplishments. They are wonderful young men and have become very successful in spite of their parents -- LOL. I consider them both gifts from God and love them both very, very much.

7. I have a strong faith in Jesus Christ and know that it is by His grace that I have made it thru some of the situations in my life.

8. I spent over a month in Europe a few years back. I never in my life thought I would ever do anything like that. I'll always cherish the memories of that trip.

9. I've wanted to go on a cruise my entire life. My husband would never go; it just didn't interest him at all. I 'finally' got to go and it was a 'quilting cruise' with eight of my dearest friends.

10. I zip-lined thru the jungles of Roatan, Honduras. I still can't believe that I did that as I am afraid of heights. I had a panic attack and truly thought I was going to die! I still can't believe I did it, but, by golly, I have a T-Shirt, pictures and witnesses -- LOL

Here we go to Award #2. I am to list five addictions:

1. Quilting

2. Blogging

3. My grandchildren

4. Reading

5. Eating too much!

Now, I must forward these awards on to five deserving folks. Have fun!

1. Teresa at Stitchin Friends

2. Jen at Cre8ative Quilter

3. Pat at A Little of This and A Little of Pat

4. Lani at The Never Ending Adventure

5. Katy at the Country Blossom

Primitive Excellence Award

My Wacky Friend, Rhonda, awarded me with the Primitive Excellence Award. Thank you Rhonda. I am just now getting around to putting it on my blog. I sometimes really feel "primitive" LOL! But I do LOVE primitive things. I love hearing and reading about stories from the past. I think it is so wonderful when people have things that have been passed down in their families from generation to generation. I don't have very many of those things, but I'm sure making sure my generation is passing down things! I am suppose to now give this award to seven other people/blogs. Well, guess what? The ones that I wanted to give it too already have been tagged! So, to all my Primitive Excellence Award Folks, I feel like I am now part of an elite group!
